Mark your calendars! The upcoming days of November 21st and 22nd, the “IV Escuela de Invierno” in heuristic optimization will take place. These sessions are aimed at PhD students in the field of optimization and related areas, welcoming all members of the community who wish to explore their interest in heuristics.

On this ocassion, after the editions in 2018 (Valencia), 2019 (Madrid) and 2022 (Burgos) the city of Seville (2024) takes over organized by colleagues Ana Dolores López Sánchez, Alfredo García Hernández-Díaz y Eva Barrena Algara (from Pablo de Olavide University, Seville) in collaboration with RedHEUR and the Heuristics Working Group of SEIO

Registration to the event is FREE to all attendees. Moreover, shared accomodation is also provided free of charge for those who wish, until capacity is reached. We also have 10 transportation scholarships available for students who do not have access to other funding."

The “Escuela de Invierno” has three types of activities:

  • Tutorials/Workshops (invited speakers)
  • Methodological Sessions (invited speakers)
  • Presentation and discussion of ongoing work (PhD students)

The workshops will be conducted by experts in heuristic optimization with a theoretical-practical purpose related with exploring useful tools and techniques during the research process. Lastly, during the talk and discussion of ongoing work, PhD students or recent graduates who wish to do so(we highly encourage all to participate) will present their work they are currently undertaking and its challenges, to discuss them collectively, suggest ideas and to recieve feedback from an experts panel.

The initial program will be published in a few days. However, it is intended that activites start on the 21st of November, Thursday, in the early afternoon (leaving the morning free for arrival in Seville) and will end on Friday,November 22nd, at noon.

The school offers accomodation scholarships for interested students (assigned in order of application, with preference given to students who present their work, as well as to researchers without project funding). Those interested must register through the following form:

https://forms.office.com/e/3QhqX2DcUM

If presenting your work is of your interest, you must provide a title and an abstract (maximum 300 words) of their talk through the previous form. Registration deadline: 30th of October 2024. We look forward to seeing you in Seville!
