Phd in Artificial Intelligence

Universidad Rey Juan Carlos

My research career, which began in 2018, is characterized by steady progress and a clear focus on excellence and international impact in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. To date, I have published 10 scientific articles in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). The high quality of these publications is noteworthy: 60% are in the first quartile (6 Q1), complemented by 2 articles in Q2 and 2 in Q3. These contributions reflect solid scientific output, with a focus on solving complex problems using advanced computing techniques.

In terms of dissemination in prestigious forums, I have presented my work at 16 national and international conferences. Among these, a publication at a CORE-A conference, the highest exponent of quality in the field of computer science, stands out in particular. My commitment to the scientific community is also evident in my role as a reviewer for high-impact journals and leading conferences, as well as in my active participation in organizational tasks, having been part of the organizing committee of an international conference. My research work has been recognized during my pre-doctoral and post-doctoral stages with significant milestones: in 2018, I received the Best Student Article Award at the Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAEPIA). Subsequently, in 2023, my doctoral thesis won second prize in the Community of Madrid’s Talent and Technology Awards, a recognition that highlights the originality and applicability of my academic contributions. I have extensive and diverse teaching experience, which began during my pre-doctoral studies and was consolidated after obtaining my doctorate. I have taught a total of 762 hours of official teaching (including planning for the 2024-25 academic year), mainly distributed across undergraduate degrees (585 hours + 165 hours in the current academic year) and official master’s degrees (12 hours). In addition, I have taught 118 hours of postgraduate courses, demonstrating my ability to adapt technical discourse to different academic levels. My teaching work is not limited to formal education; I have taught specialized courses at other universities and in the private sector, transferring the results of my research to the professional environment. In the field of educational innovation, I have maintained a proactive attitude by participating in various projects and serving as Principal Investigator (PI) in a teaching innovation project, leading teams to improve teaching-learning processes. A fundamental pillar of my profile is the supervision of academic work. I have tutored 28 Final Degree Projects (TFG) and one Final Master’s Project (TFM), focusing on cybersecurity and metaheuristics. This commitment to training new talent culminated in the co-supervision of a doctoral thesis (Alejandra Casado Ceballos, New metaheuristic approaches to solving domination problems), which received the highest grade of “Sobresaliente Cum Laude”, demonstrating my ability to lead and supervise high-level research. My profile stands out for its strong connection to the productive fabric. I have participated in five national research projects, one research project within the URJC’s own funding program, and, most notably, five transfer projects (Art. 60/83 LOSU) with companies. This transfer trajectory has crystallized in 2025 with the founding of the Knowledge-Based Company (EBC) CiberScore S.L., of which I own 10% of the share capital. This spin-off, created under the auspices of the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), is a tangible example of how academic research can be transformed into market solutions in collaboration with strategic partners. My technical expertise is backed by previous experience at leading companies in the technology sector, such as Telefónica (Eleven Paths) and CEGID Group (Meta4). In these organizations, I played critical roles in software development, quality assurance (QA), systems administration, and CD/CI environment deployment, skills that today translate into teaching and research aligned with the real needs of the sector. Finally, my institutional commitment is reflected in my time as a doctoral student, where I obtained the URJC Certificate of Excellence. I have represented the university in prestigious competitions such as programming contests and Capture The Flag (CTF) events at an international level. I also maintain a constant presence in scientific dissemination, participating in Science Week, European Researchers’ Night, and various workshops, with the aim of bringing artificial intelligence and cybersecurity closer to society at large.
