Alfonso Fernández was born in Plasencia (Cáceres, Spain) on October 14, 1975. He received his M.S. degree in Physics Sciences from the Universidad de Extremadura (Uex) in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Physics Sciences (Nuclear Sciencie & Technology) in 2005 from the same Institution. He was previously working at the Environtmental Radioactivity Group in the Faculty of Physics Sciences at Uex as research grant holder.
Since 2003, he is Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department (Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación), where is member of the Group for Research on Algorithms For Optimization GRAFO.
He has two main research areas: simulation of processes related to alpha particle measurement (where he has published more than fifteen papers in some of the highest ranked scientifics journals) and
Operations Research (where his publications cover the area of development of metaheuristics procedures for optimization problems).
